Cloth Diapering – A Whole New World!

Cloth Diapering – A Whole New World!

Call me crazy, call me insane, I would have 3.5 years ago. I DID call people crazy! I was one of you, thinking Mamas were nuts to even try cloth diapering. Why when you can just toss and go with a disposable? But throughout this pregnancy it’s something that I have not really been able to stop thinking about. I have an amazing network of women who are as different as night and day, but many of them have successfully cloth diapered. With Miss P and the eczema and skin sensitivities she had, only allowing us to buy Pampers and eventually the sole reason we hit potty training (both night and day) so hard, because her poor bum could not handle more rashes. Even attempting to buy cheaper diapers ended up in us spending more money to run back out and grab the Pampers we knew would work and take off the rash/hives.

My friend Jess has been a lifesaver, sending me flow charts (yes, it’s how she works and one of the reasons I love her) and explaining all of the pros/cons of the various and MULTIPLE options you have. She has been beyond patient with me because as I was initially reading through all of the information I found myself – well, let’s just say beyond perplexed. I looked up into the mirror and found someone staring back at me:

This my friends is no longer the cloth diapering world of the past. Options, options, options. And cute, cute, CUTE! Of course there was initially the incentive reason behind cloth diapering. Yes, yes, you know me – anyway to save a buck. I’ve found however vastly different options on whether cloth diapering saves you money, or is equal to disposables. However, as I think about the $80-$120 we spent per month on diapers for approximately three years… I’m tending from my experience and those of my friends to go with the “it saves you money” mindset.

So, here we go! Jess found me an amazing, wonderful local resource (how a Colorado friend knows more about the resources in Lincoln, NE than I do I don’t know- it’s why she’s so amazing) at Circle Me. There was a consignment sale yesterday. I walked in, and promptly panicked. So many options, so different looking than the websites – I forgot my test order (yes, b/c I’m one of those). Thankfully I happened upon one of the owners who became my personal shopper for the day. I actually spent more money than she probably would have because I kept asking about various things. But, for the cost of approximately 2, 2.5 months of disposable diapers I have found myself with the beginnings of a CD stash. We’ll see how this goes, we may do a combo, we’ll have to work with the daycare, etc… but it’s a new adventure and worth a shot!

Did I mention how cute everything was? Besides, Lil Man looks cute with it already. See?

(As always, click on the images to bring them up larger. Enjoy seeing how cute my son’s bum will be looking!)
