I’m A Big Kid Now
I did it. I took the plunge. My last three vacuums have been hand-me-downs, bought on garage sales, found in empty houses (amazing what you find when your Mom is a real estate agent/broker). I am incredibly grateful. I am. But all three have pooped out on me and for years I have wanted a vacuum, a real vacuum. Not one that I bought for $30 as a 22 year old, freaking out about every expense. Not an $800 lovely dust picker-upper (okay, so I DO want one of those… just can’t afford it). We all have dog/cat allergies, but Prayse’s most favoritest thing in the whole entire world is ABBEY!!! She also loves when Uncle “Maaaa” and Aunt “Nelsie” (Matt/Chelsea) come to stay with us, and yes even “ABBEEEEEEY!” Who am I to deny that? So I need something that can really pick up the pet dander and oh yes… actually work. Due to my one-year old’s freak out the other night I also may or may not have burned out the motor of my current 30+ year old Kirby trying to calm her down and convince her the vacuum would in fact NOT eat her. But hey, after 30 years it was due for retirement.
So I am now the proud owner of this (it even says “No Loss of Suction” in the name):

And when I say proud, I really do mean proud. I actually have wanted/envied for a vacuum for years. When did I get this lame? When did we get to the age where vacuums and carpet cleaners and dishwashers were our hearts desires? My fellow Mamas and I once wrote for pages about whether to spend a bonus check on a dishwasher or a new chair. The consensus? The dishwasher?? What? What about a new pair of shoes to go along with a fabulous outfit that you wear on a date with a hubby? Nope. We were all for the dishwasher. And me? I spent some extra money on a vacuum and a mini- deep freezer.
My friends, I have grown up. Wow. I didn’t even see it coming.

Great blog! Congrats on the new vacuum. I got a Dyson for Valentine’s day 2006 when I was quite pregnant with my son. It was the best Valentine’s day gift EVER! LOL! Enjoy it!
