If It’s Not One Thing
It’s another. I swear, this house is going to drive me bonkers. In retrospect I wish we had never purchased it, but we did and we’ll live in it for another few years at least so I try to make the most of it.
R and I have a pseudo-plan to try and slowly but surely make updates, fix the things that need it the most so that we can enjoy some of the updates before we try to sell it. We’ve done some work already with putting in all new floors and carpet before Prayse was born (nesting anyone?).
Honestly though, every time one thing gets fixed something else goes out. Immediately. Its like this stupid house is trying to play a trick on me. My Dad fixed and replaced our garbage disposal as well as the electricity outlets in our kitchen as all but one had not been working. Perfect. That same night, the outlets in the master bathroom stopped working. My Dad, bless his heart, apparently got tired of me complaining about it and had his electrician stop by yesterday afternoon. He fixed them in oh, about five minutes. He also fixed the downstairs bathroom outlets. I guess some very easy connector thing went bad and the plastic was actually melting… super safe. I’m glad I waited two years to have the downstairs bathroom looked at. I’ve got to get on the ball.
It reminds me much of the plumber I called in this summer to save me from the upstairs toilet. It was so loud when we flushed it that the walls shook. Literally. Not much fun anytime but especially with a newborn that doesn’t like to sleep. So $300, and 15 minutes later the friendly plumber had us working like new when he installed the $7 part that needed replacing. Ouch. Seriously though, what’s a girl to do? I didn’t marry a handy man, I have to live with that fact.
Okay so outlets fixed? Check. Kitchen water faucet goes out? Check. Such is the love/hate relationship I have with this house. Home ownership… not all that it’s cracked up to be. Makes ya be responsible.

I hate this type of stuff. We just got a £565 bill (that would be around US$1200) from the gas company, because our gas system for heating and water was wrongly programmed. Long story. I don’t know whether to laugh, cry or scream. Or just eat ice cream.
