Update on James

Thank you all for your continued prayers. Amazing isn’t it that there are people like yourselves in the world to take time out of your busy day to pray for someone you don’t even know. It off sets at least some of the horror and negativity we all see or read about on a daily basis.

I wanted to give you an update on what has been happening. Over the past few days there have been two major surgeries, both lasting over six hours. The first was an attempt to repair some of the vascular damage to the lower half of James’ leg as well as try to find all of the nerves that had been severed. The second was to set his broken femur.

Originally the plan was to do what they could at the current hospital and them fly him to Seattle to try to find the rest of the nerves, hoping that he would be able to have some movement and feeling.  The doctors spoke with my Aunt and Uncle and concluded that because 3/4 of his calf muscle had to be removed and because they just cannot find the nerves to attempt to reconnect them, that the best option is to amputate. We are not sure where, whether it will be right at or below the knee, but it will happen.

James does not yet know, but they will be telling him today. Technology in prosthetics has come so far, we all know this and are grateful. But in the moment, when you are 16 and you hear that you are losing a portion of your leg… that’s a huge blow. Today will be a hard day.

Please continue to pray, both for healing physically and emotionally. Thank you again!!
