Are you KIDDING me?

I woke up this morning and this was the first article I saw in the news:

Fiesta Bowl star Ian Johnson says he’s hired wedding security because of racist threats

I’m not naive enough to think that the whole world is magically okay with interracial relationships and marriages, but it still makes me livid to know that the ignorant and uneducated exist. We’ll never really get rid of racism 100%. There’s a lot we can do as a society but we can’t touch what goes on at home behind closed doors. How can they fail to realize that the two races with the most hateful and hurtful history make the most beautiful babies who will work to change this world? Prayse is just one example of that. It makes me think a lot about how I want to raise her, to be proud of who she is. The world may look at her and think “African American” or “black.” I cannot change first impressions, but she will know both family histories. She will know of her Daddy’s family and of her Great Grandaddy who still felt the effects of the end of slavery down in Arkansas. She will know that Adams was one of the biggest slave names in that area.

She will also know of a family who came from England, who had a choice to be hung as horse thieves :) or come to the New World (personally I think they made the right choice). She’ll also know and be proud of her German and Scottish ancestry.

She will  face the uneducated and the ignorant and it will hurt. In reality it will probably hurt me more than her, but I also know that just by being who she is and showing pride in that, her and others will make a difference.

Raymonn and I are so blessed with the families we have been given. The support and unconditional love is so strong we have never ever had to question our love or our future together. Have we run into others who feel different? Of course. Do they matter? Absolutely not. God has also given us a social network beyond belief. We are so blessed again to have friends in similar relationships to us also with babies close to her age. To be perfectly honest, I would never have thought that would be the case living in Lincoln, NE but God provides, even in a social setting.

People are very naive and stupid if you ask me. You see this more so in some areas then others. Nebraska is a funny place, if you are in the bigger places, such as Omaha or Lincoln, people tolerate the different races quite well. But, if you venture out to the small towns, it is not quite as tolerable and their are many more ignorant people out there. I can’t stand that, we are all equal. I don’t listen to ignorant people though, in any situation.
Your family is great and Prayse will be so lucky to have both backgrounds in raising her!

That’s so true. It’s been interesting to see how it is so much more accepted out here on the East Coast. I think that it’s great that you and Raymonn are dedicated to raising your children with knowledge of both their parents heritage. I know that racism of interracial couples will most likely always exist, but I hope and pray by the time our children are impacted by their generation it won’t be as prevalent as it is today. Love ya!

I still don’t understand how people can justify hating an entire race just based on color. I think interracial marraiges are a beautiful thing, and heck, look at the beautiful little girl that is the result of such.
